12 Benefits of The Holy Spirit
You're called to walk in miracles, signs, and wonders! These 12 benefits of The Holy Spirit will help you live a righteous and powerful life.
The Holy Spirit is a gift you will receive after accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus said to his disciples: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.” (John 14:16-30)
Jesus is the perfect role-model on how to live a Godly life. Jesus was powerful and without sin. Ultimately, He achieved this because He was led by the Holy Spirit: “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” (Luke 4:1) In the wilderness, the Holy Spirit gave Jesus the strength to withstand the tricks and temptations of Satan. This is a powerful demonstration of how we too can live a powerful and sin-free life with the Holy Spirit as well!
With the Holy Spirit, you too can live as Christ did. Similarly, you can walk in purity, authority, signs, miracles, and wonders: "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."(John 14:12)
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is our helper and advocate. He will provide every thing necessary to remain connected to God. (John 14:15-17)
How do you get the Holy Spirit? Apostle Paul said: “repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38; Acts 19:1-6)
Can you quench the Spirit? Yes, you can. Paul states, “do not quench the spirit” in 1 Thessalonians 5:19! Remember, you are now a temple and the Holy Spirit lives within you. Living an ungodly life is similar to doing sin on Holy Ground. Guess what? Believers are Holy Ground and their body should be respected as a place for consistent worship, obedience, and praise. You can read more on this here: What does it mean to grieve / quench the Holy Spirit?
"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
What are the benefits of the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit lives and works within you: “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23) This is GOOD NEWS because the Holy Spirit allows you to be connected and sealed to God’s love eternally. Essentially, The Holy Spirit is proof that God adopted you, sealed the deal, and promises to do a perfect work in you. (Romans 8: 15-17)
1. You’re Born Again
Alone you are not capable of living a Godly life. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out. Before Christ, you were like the Jews that were under the law of death. They constantly sought to obey the commands of God, but couldn’t in their own strength. They were weak to sin because they couldn’t conquer the flesh. Our flesh constantly lusts for people, objects, and situations to fulfill us.
After accepting Christ, the Holy Spirit begins a process of purifying you and removing the flesh. He will teach you how to live in connection with God and manifest his qualities and power. This process is being born again. Humanity can’t enter Heaven without being born again. You need the Holy Spirit to purify you and allow you to be worthy of entering Heaven. “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5-8)
In Ezekiel 36:26-27, the prophet Ezekiel foreshadows this type of transformation: “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.“

2. You Have The Mind of Christ
God reveals [His wisdom] to us through the Holy Spirit. We are not able to understand the thoughts or ways of God with our human logic. We need the Holy Spirit to understand God or receive the mind of Christ. With the mind of Christ we are able to think, speak, pray, and make decisions in a manner that honors God.
“The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthian 2:10-16)

3. The Holy Spirit Guides You
The Holy Spirit intercedes on your behalf. He knows what you need when you’re weak. His goal is to pray that you receive all that is necessary to stand strong in your faith: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26)
The Holy Spirit will also guide us in praying what is on God’s heart. In Acts 2:2-13, the disciples were speaking in different languages and declaring the mighty works of God. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Essentially, we may not know how to pray for our friends, family, co-workers, and church associates, but the spirit will lead us.
4. You Possess Power
The Holy Spirit empowers you to boldly preach the Gospel. Through him, you can also see people healed from emotional and physical sickness. Yes, you too have the power to walk in miracles, signs, and wonders! Are you settling?

- “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” (Luke 4:18)
The Holy Spirit gives you the power to be hopeful and joyful in difficult situations:
- “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13)
- “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:5)
Believers are given the power to abound in love and self-control when others aren’t kind. In addition, the spirit gives you the ability to speak life to yourself. And the power to speak life into others:
- For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7
- On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. - “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:12-15)
- “And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2:13)
Also, the Spirit will lead you to speak the truth and revelatory knowledge: “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:20)
7. He Convicts You
The Holy Spirit searches you for hidden sin and impurities. He then convicts you and brings you to repentance. Lastly, God’s refining fire burns up all your flaws as you embrace intimacy with him. Refined Christians aren’t usually prideful because God has revealed the potential for wickedness within their own heart.
- These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10)
- Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. (John 16:7-15)

8. He Helps You Stay Righteous
The Holy Spirit washes us internally and helps us become pure. When you were first saved you started the process of being cleansed by God. It’s not an overnight process, so stay faithful as he continues to cleanse your life of everything that hinders intimacy with God.
Remember, you are sealed for the day of redemption. Essentially, the Holy Spirit is a reminder that God will not stop perfecting and pursuing you! “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:12-14)

- “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.” (Acts 2:17-18)
The Old Testament also confirms the prophetic gift of the Holy Spirit. In Numbers 11, God put his spirit on 70 elders to help Moses lead. Joshua told Moses to “stop them” because the elders were prophesying. Moses replied: “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!”
